...we answer God's call - to discover and make known - the love of the Heart of Jesus...

My first direct contact with the Society of the Sacred Heart was via our retreat house at Llannerchwen, where I made my first Individually Guided Retreat and subsequently discerned my vocation to the Society. What attracted me particularly were the equal emphasis on the contemplative and the active aspects of the charism, our call to manifest the love of the Heart of Jesus that had been pierced on the Cross, and also the internationality of the Society. My first two ministries within the Society – that of Probation Officer and then retreat giver and spiritual accompanier – enabled me to experience at first hand the close relationship between the contemplative and the active aspects of our charism.

Now, since 2013, when I began my current ministry as interpreter and translator, I am gaining first-hand experience of the richness, the joy and also the challenges of our internationality.  For the first two years I was delighted to have the opportunity to live in one of our communities in Madrid. Then, in June 2015, it became clear that I would need to return to help out in the ENW Province and I moved in to 1B New House. This is very near our elderly sisters in Duchesne House, and also the group of post-graduate students across the road in Barat House, and, when I am at home, I try to maintain some regular contact with both groups, by attending occasional Masses with them and/or by occasional social contact with them. I greatly appreciate these contacts, which offer me the experience of having a “home base” amidst all the travelling required of me in my current ministry.
