We were a large group from Asia, Europe, America – North and South, New Zealand.
I loved my time in probation and we were a very united group which explains why we received the Name: A community built up on the love of Christ. The Eucharist was central to our life, the life of Christ which unites us in his love and why we were given the Devise: This is my body. Amen.
My parents came to Rome for my final profession, a great joy! We went to the Paul VI Audience Hall for an Audience – an unforgettable experience!
My Obedience, after final profession, was to return to the Mother House to join the international community and to be in the secretariat. Mother Barbara Napier was Secretary General and much-loved by us all. I remained in Rome until 1971, having lived through the General Chapter of 1970 which brought about many changes and the election of Mother Concha Camacho as Superior General. These were confusing times and painful ones and I learnt how to take each day one step at a time: ‘I do not ask to see the distant scene; one step enough for me” (Cardinal Newman). His faithful love has kept me close to Him and my Sisters. I have had the joy of meeting some of the RSCJ who were professed with me and have been able to share life’s experiences.
My present ministry is an airport chaplain at London Heathrow Airport and I belong to the International Civil Aviation Chaplains network. We have a conference convened every three years by the Pontifical Council for Migrants in Rome. I had the joy of meeting Pope Benedict XVI during our private audience in 2012 and look forward to meeting Pope Francis in 2015!
