This year the worldwide Sacred Heart family began to commemorate and celebrate the bicentenary of St Philippine Duchesne's courageous and generous journey to the United States in spring 1818, where she and her companions established the Society in what was still pioneer territory.
On November 18th we celebrate Philippine's feast day, and on this day we will begin the year of prayer, engagement and conversation that will help us celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Society of the Sacred Heart’s courageous decision to live its mission and charism beyond known frontiers.
Throughout this year, weekly reflections and prayers, prepared by RSCJ around the world, will be posted on both the international and US-Canada Province websites. Please join us in accepting the invitation issued by our Superior General, Barbara Dawson RSCJ, to be part of a global prayer community which has the potential of being another opportunity for significant grace and action.
"May this year of prayer with Philippine strengthen our capacity to contemplate and listen to the heartbeat of God in ourselves and in our world. May we, like Sophie and Philippine, be compelled by the love of the Heart of God, Jesus Christ. May we believe in a gospel vision beyond what we can see or imagine that “all may be One” and act with courage, confidence and persistence to make this vision a reality."
