In March 2013 the choir from Sacred Heart School Greenwich, Connecticut, came on a pilgrimage to England. After a week in which they visited Cottesmore (birthplace of Janet Stuart), Woldingham and Beechwood Sacred Heart Schools, the students came to Roehampton, where they visited the archives and the newly restored Sacred Heart Chapel in Digby Stuart College. Here, they read original letters from Janet Stuart selected by Barbara Vesey, the Provincial Archivist, and sang Spirit Seeking Light and Beauty in the Chapel as they sat by the tombs of Janet Stuart, Mabel Digby and Joseph Varin.

They then crossed the road to sing for the sisters with sisters in Duchesne
at Duchesne House community. Those gathered there were very impressed by the quality of their singing and their range - from gospel songs to traditional Sacred Heart favourites. Finally, they crowded into Elizabeth Hughes RSCJ's bedroom to sing to her on her 90th birthday. A retired music teacher, Elizabeth told them to always listen to the Lord in their hearts, and that he will always be there for them.

 

The group leader, Lori Wilson, said it was a "dream come true" to bring students to Roehampton and that the girls said that visiting Duchesne was a highlight of their trip.
