The Provincial Teams of all the European Provinces met in Villa Aurelia, Rome from Friday 14th to Monday 17th June. Including interpreters, facilitator and the Central Team, there were 41 people altogether, with the Motherhouse community joining them for Mass.

ENW was represented by by outgoing and incoming leadership - Jane Maltby, Cath Lloyd, Sheila McNamara and Lorraine Pratt, who report...

The title was ‘Going Forward Into the Future Together.’ The atmosphere created and the way we worked together strongly reflected this title. We met to explore together what is life-giving and life-draining in our RSCJ context in Europe and how the European provinces saw the future of the European region. The facilitator was Pauline Darby, a Holy Child sister, known to many of us, and her gentle, insightful manner and creative approach enabled the process and created an energetic, collaborative atmosphere and an easiness in our working together. We gathered each day in prayer in the presence of the Rublev Trinity icon which rooted us in our reflections.

Having reflected on the similarities and differences, we spent some time with ‘What is the most important question we are living in Europe?’ Another time of reflection centred on: ‘What is God asking of us now?’

On Sunday we were encouraged to think about what risks and bold steps we might want to take, big or small, in relation to the future of the Society in Europe. From this sharing 5 key areas emerged for further discussion: administration and financial management; common apostolic projects, care of our elderly sisters; networking for all and helps and supports for leaders.

Work is to continue on these groups and we left on Monday with a strengthened sense of ‘One Body’ and a willingness and desire to work together across Europe where and when we can. There was much emphasis of this happening at grassroots level and life and mission being central. A very enjoyable and energising meeting.
