Five come to Oxford
June 2013
It was a weekend for prayer, sharing and simple enjoyment of each others' company. The visitors cooked together, fusing different cuisines, prepared prayer and shared something of their countries and provinces. Silvana also gave a presentation about this province, and Margaret rounded things off with a delicious Sunday lunch. No visit to Oxford would be complete without the chance to visit some of the many ancient colleges, chapels and other famous buildings. Helen, one of the students in our hostel, offered to act as tour guide, thus enabling the group to spend an enjoyable and highly informative Saturday afternoon being tourists. The sun shone throughout, which was a definite bonus! The verdict... How good, how delightful it is to live as brothers and sisters all together! (Psalm133.1)
The three days being together with the Oxford Community were a real joy. Sharing about our Provinces was a good experience - in a way we were being prepared for our Probation. The weather was so beautiful so that we didn't miss the chance to see the heart of the city of Oxford
We spent a wonderful and unforgettable weekend in Oxford. During this week-end we learnt some important aspects of our provinces or of our countries. Silvana also presented to us the powerpoint about vocations ministry in the English-Welsh Province. I have learned some interesting ideas which I will try to realise in my country. And of course, we had a delightful walk along one the most famous student cities that represents the authentic England. I'm very grateful to the Oxford community for the chance to visit them.
Thanks to Srs. Jane, Magaret, Silvana and Yukiko who gave us this opportunity to come and share our life together. Not forgeting Helen who gave her time, and Tania who shared her meal with us. I felt the Society's spirit of building communion is the same everywhere. I wish I could have studied in Oxford and served in this community where so much society building goes on. The stay in Oxford has broadened my views.

There are currently seven RSCJ in temporary vows from six countries in England. I was eager to see Oxford not because I read so much in History but because I heard from our sisters in India about this place. When I entered the house I experienced a sense of belongingness to this place with the warm welcome we received not only from the sisters but also the students who stay there. During these three days, we shared many things about our culture, province, history of our nations. It helped me to understand and respect other cultures. When Silvana shared about the vocation ministry here, it is a help to learn from it and do vocation work in India. Once again I experienced the generosity of each RSCJ in this community, really living Sophie's spirit. I was even fascinated by the rooms which are named after rscj who have worked in other parts of the world.
