Forest Gate - Rose

I am Rose Gichangi, a Young Professed from Uganda-Kenya Province. I am from Nyeri in Kenya, the coldest place near Mt Kenya. We are eight in my family, two boys and six girls. My parents are still alive and both of them are peasant farmers.

I came to know the Society back in 1999 through a magazine I picked up in our parish, but I was too young to join then. I still had to complete my training. In 2005 I joined as a candidate. I was accepted for the postulancy programme in 2007 - June 2008. I joined the novitiate in Aug 2008, and made my first vows in Aug 2010, with my friend and companion Maria Gorreth. (The photo below was taken just after the ceremony, and we're with Ursula, who was our Provincial at that time)

I was missioned to Chekalini in Kenya where I have been working as an administrator of a Technical Institute and teaching maths and home economics.

I am grateful to God, my Province, ENW province and the whole Society. The devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus first attracted me. Since then I have been at home peacefully discovering the Love of Jesus and making it known to all. I have been able to embrace the love of Jesus so naturally to people I work with and those I meet. I treasure the virtues of simplicity, openness and trust which I have received and seen among RSCJ.

Currently (early December 2012), I am just a week old in ENW province, living in Boleyn Road community. It had been such a long wait for my visa but how other things followed after remains a blink of the eye! I am glad to have met a big number of the province during the assembly, just after I arrived. Being here reminds me of how I/we should be ready and focused with our personal Jesus.

I first met with Margret Wilson when I was in the novitiate, and she visited Uganda. One evening at the laundry she told us (we were three novices) "we don't have any vocations in our province." I told her, "pray for us in our formation. One day I will come to promote." She laughed and replied Yes with such a wonderful smile. For me I knew this might happen after many years, but now here I am... For God time elapses so fast and he has his plan for each one of us.

I have come to embrace the Love of Jesus at an international level, in the community, at their ministry and also to study French. I hope by the end of my stay I will be able to communicate in French and my way of relating, listening and Faith will have grown.

I like listening to music, stories, reading and going on walks.
May God help us to remain open and trust in his love.
I am happy to be part of you all in the province. I will share more when I will visit communities.
