Introducing the Network and its Goals

 There are six schools and one College in our English network. Originally founded by the Society of the Sacred Heart, the institutions have chosen to explore the distinctive ethos that is their heritage, and to collaborate on ways to make it come alive for their students in the 21^st century.

Every year the network holds conferences for the Leaders of the schools and College, the Goals Coordinators and the Chaplains. The Network Coordinator supports the institutions in other ways offering staff development sessions, involvement in projects such as HUG and facilitating links with the international network.

International Network
The English network is part of a global network. There are Sacred Heart Schools and Universities in 28 countries across the world. You can find a map on the US schools network website. http://sofie.org/schools/international

Over the years there have been meetings of leaders from the schools that has led to collaboration and projects of different kinds.

The Goals of Sacred Heart Education
Schools of the Sacred Heart commit themselves to educate to

Goal I:  a personal and active faith in God.

Goal II: a deep respect for intellectual values.

Goal III: a social awareness which impels to action.

Goal IV: the building of community as a Christian value.

Goal V: personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom.

These Goals were originally drawn up in the U.S. province by rscj and lay educators after long reflection, discussion and prayer. Other provinces have adopted them and assist and monitor the implementation of the goals in different ways.

The English Network is exploring how we put the Five Goals into practice in our schools. Each year we promote one of the Goals within our institutions and share good practice. In 2010-2011 we looked at Community, in 2011-2012 we will consider Intellect, then in 2012-2013, Faith. We are following the model set up by the Irish/Scottish and Maltese Network.
