This photo of Lorraine captures a moment of encounter; an engagement between Lorraine and the Hammersmith High School pupils. It would seem, judging by the expression on Lorraine's face that it is a life-giving encounter!

The experience of encounter and engagement is at the heart of the first link on the website's left-hand menu: "Discovering and making known." These are keywords from a foundational statement of our spirituality in the Constitutions:

"We answer Jesus' call
to discover and make known the love of His Heart,
letting ourselves be transformed by His Spirit
so as to live united and conformed to Him,
and through our love and service
to radiate the very love of His Heart."
(Constitutions paragraph 4.)

This call is not our prerogative as RSCJ. All Christians are called to "love God above all things and my neighbour as myself."

In pre-Christian times the prophet Micah told the Israelites: "This is what Yahweh asks of you; to act justly, to love tenderly, to walk humbly with your God."
All Christians are called to "discover and make known the love of the Heart of Jesus".

• through openness to his heart in prayer, silence, solitude,
• through meeting the heart of Jesus in people and events
• through trying to live the values of his heart compassion, generosity, service; creating community and communion.....

Discovering the Heart of Jesus the call to a deep intimate personal relationship with Jesus in prayer and finding His heart alive in all the encounters of the day.

Encounter and engagement: this is what happens when we are truly open to the Spirit, in prayer, in our relationships with others, in our interest in, and concern about the events in our world. Feel it in the tummy, the solar plexus relaxes...!
