Prayer & Reflection

Entries for September 2012

A poem written several years ago by Mary McKeone rscj, who died on 7th September 2012 shortly before her 80th birthday:

When the last leaf falls
the sap lies still -
the tree's at rest until
the sudden thrill
of second spring.

So we shall rise again
from clutch of earth
to 'wait the clothing
of our nakedness,
and we shall find
the agony of birth
less painful, more glorious
than all the vesting
of the wood
before the first larks spring.

When the heart-beat stops
and we lie still,
then shall we glory in
our second spring.
