This timeline charts the origins and development of the England-Wales Province of the Society of the Sacred Heart, which necessarily include events from the wider world.

The RSCJ in these islands have been grouped in different ways over the years, and the timeline reflects this in its inclusion of other provinces and districts with whom ENW has historical and ongoing connections. The foundress, St Madeleine Sophie Barat, said, ‘Times change and we must change with them.’

We hope this dip into the history of the Province shows how the RSCJ have done and continue to do just that.

Thanks are due to the Society archivists for the ENW Province and the General Archives, the ENW Schools and College Network Co-ordinator, and the individual RSCJ who have shared their memories and photographs.
